Breaking: ACE FREHLEY Touring Lineup Announced

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

Hot off the heels of the monster debut of Space Invader, Ace Frehley has announced his touring lineup for the first leg of tour dates, his first U.S. shows in four years, which will be announced next week. Frehley adds comment:

“I can’t wait to hit the road again with this new lineup. I’ll be performing Ace classics as well as songs off my new CD ‘Space Invader‘ for the enjoyment of the fans. Let There Be Rock!”

The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has tapped none other than Richie Scarlet, who rode shotgun performing rhythm guitar and vocal duties on Ace’s “Trouble Walking” platter in 1989, and will do so again on stage. Ritchie toured with Ace in 1984 and 1985 and periodically from 1989 through 1995 and was also known for touring with Sebastian Bach.

On bass and vocals Chris Wyse from Queens, NY will man the post. Previously recording with Ozzy Osbourne and playing on Mick Jagger’s 2001 solo album, Chris is well known as the bass player from The Cult since 2006. Chris can also be heard on Frehley’s new release, Space Invader on select tracks. He also covers bass duties in his current band, Owl.

Finally, Scot Coogan will be behind the drum kit for Frehley’s upcoming tour. An Ace Frehley touring band veteran in his own right, Scott was also a member of Nikki Sixx’s Brides of Destruction recording and touring band in 2004 and Lita Ford’s touring drummer in 2012.

Ace Frehley recently made history with his new album Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart in its week of release. The LP scored the highest charting position of ANY Kiss solo album ever, and marks Frehley’s first return to the Top 10 since KISS’s 1998 Pyscho Circus reunion album. Internationally, Space Invader has debuted #1 on the Independent Chart and #16 on the Top 200 Chart in Canada, Top 40 in Switzerland and Sweden, and hit a historic benchmark for the first time ever as a solo artist in Germany.

Space Invader, Frehley’s first studio album in five years, has also received praise from critics. Rolling Stone wrote, “Gene Simmons has claimed Ace Frehley doesn’t deserve to wear Kiss’ Kabuki clown paint, but the former Spaceman’s first solo LP in five years says otherwise,” while Associated Press hailed, “…the original Kiss lead guitarist has recorded his best solo album since his groundbreaking self-titled album in 1978.” Paste also confirmed, “Space Invader is a good rock album, and it’s an even better guitar record.”

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

Today AOL Originals announced “TRUE TRANS WITH LAURA JANE GRACE,” a 10-episode series following transgender pioneer and lead singer of the punk band Against Me! who publicly came out as a transgender woman at the height of her music career in 2012. “True Trans” shares the remarkable journey of Laura and other transgender individuals across the country. The series explores poignant moments from Laura’s life that include identifying as transgender, the decision to come out publicly and the overall transition experience. Throughout the series, viewers and fans will get an up close and personal look at people whose stories are just now beginning to be told.

“The opportunity I had while shooting this show was nothing short of tremendous,” said Grace. “Getting the chance to listen to other people tell their stories of how life shaped their identities and views on gender couldn’t help but further inform my own understanding of just how complicated and also how simple all of it really is.”

The first four episodes of the series will be available on October 10 in a special advance celebration of National Coming Out Day on the AOL On Originals home page. Additionally, the series will be available on mobile devices through the AOL On app.

Each episode will follow Laura and other powerful individuals who are part of the transgender community as they share stories about the harsh realities of growing up anxious about their own identities. They recount moments of coping, turning to drugs and alcohol, taking the first freeing but difficult steps toward transition and so much more. These short-form docu-style installments will each dive deeper into the lives and emotions of this growing community, revealing the vulnerability and strength behind finding who they really are.

Additional episodes will feature life after transition, showcasing Laura’s life as a parent and her day job as being a rock star.

The series is produced by award-winning AOL Studios. For more than a decade, AOL Studios has been at the forefront of original and ground-breaking content creation, garnering multiple Emmy nominations and dozens of Webby, Telly and Streamy Award wins.

Gary Cherone’s HURTSMILE To Release Sophomore Album “RETROGRENADE” October 7th

Gary Cherone’s HURTSMILE To Release Sophomore Album “RETROGRENADE” October 7th

Frontman extraordinaire/songwriter Gary Cherone (Extreme/Van Halen) is proud to announce the release of the sophomore album from Hurtsmile, his collaboration with brother/guitarist Mark Cherone; RETROGRENADE will be available in North America on October 7th via Cherone’s own Slipkid Records. Following up on the band’s acclaimed self-titled debut in 2011, the fan-funded RETROGRENADE pays homage to almost every genre Cherone has excelled at in the past. Inspired by the classic rock records they grew up on, RETROGRENADE is the collective effort of Hurtsmile flexing their musical muscle.

Of RETROGRENADE, Gary Cherone commented, “The strength of this record is that all the members of the band contributed to the songwriting process which resulted in a wonderfully creative diversity. This second effort has been a natural progression and we’ve yet to repeat ourselves musically.”

Gary Cherone’s career is rooted in classic rock, but his innate diversity and broad influences have created unexpected detours and surprises. Extreme is the formidable genesis of Cherone’s career; its “funky metal” roots and ubiquitous #1 smash hit “More Than Words,” introduced Cherone to the mainstream, but it was Extreme’s captivating performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert that finally put him on the world stage. A few years later Cherone would be asked to join the legendary Van Halen and co-write their VH3 with the band and tour the world once again.

In 2011, Gary teamed up with his brother Mark Cherone (Flesh/SuperZero), Joe Pessia (Tantric/DramaGods) and Dana Spellman to record the self-titled debut, HURTSMILE, a musically aggressive sucker punch to the face featuring Cherone’s most provocative lyrics to date. Hurtsmile’s music is chock-full of swaggering guitars, soaring vocals and trademark eclecticism, with The Boston Globe declaring the quartet, “hard-hitting.” Hurtsmile is Gary Cherone (vocals), Mark Cherone (guitars), Joe Pessia (bass, mandolin) and Dana Spellman (drums, percussion).

Hurtsmile RETROGRENADE track listing:
1. Rock N’ Roll Cliche
2. Hello, I Must Be Going
3. Big Government
4. I Still Do
5. Sing A Song (My Mia)
6. Anymore (Don’t Want My Love)
7. Where Do We Go From Here
8. A Melody For You
9. Wonder What
10. Walk Away
11. Goodbye
12. Pump It Up
